PART OF COMPONENT ONE, PERSONAL INVESTIGATION
"LOVERS ROCK" BY STEVE MCQUEEN
FINISHED PROJECT
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The film "Lovers Rock" is called after the genre and plays some of the most popular songs throughout the movie, such as "Silly Games" by Janet Kay, popular in Jamaican music represents the unique spaces of freedom created by young black people of that time whose families were immigrants. Looking at artists like Jason Munn, Saul Bass and the La Boca movement, I combined each style to create unique posters that captured the atmosphere of the film.

This was the very first design I created for it, I analysed the film and its atmosphere very well. Since in almost all scenes young people danced and changed records for different songs, I decided to depict the hand of the main character changing the record whose song is a representation of the film. And earlier I mentioned about this record “Pressure” which had the song “Silly Game”.

FINAL PIECE
This poster turned out the best of all the previous ones, the idea came to me while looking at Saul Bass, or rather his Vertigo poster (wo people who dance in circles). So the whole movie “Lovers Rock” was about how a girl came to a party and met her love there, and most of the movie was about music and how they danced and went out for a smoke break. I decided to create a reference from my impressions of the movie. I created illustration in Illustrator of two silhouettes of a girl and a guy, it was supposed to be the last little smoke from an extinguished cigarette against the wall, on which they themselves (the main characters of the movie) would dance.
